In last week’s blog post we zeroed in on love notes we received from our friends in the media – taking a closer look at what journalists love about PR pros and what they need from us to make this relationship work. As with every good relationship, it is a two-way street.
Here are the top five things we love to find in a journalist:
- When you see us as partners.
Our relationship can benefit you as much as it does PR pros. You are on a mission to uncover the untold stories and break news for your readers, and we will do everything in our power to provide you access to the sources needed to do so.
- When you provide feedback on our pitches.
We understand you can’t cover everything, and we value your time. If you’re not interested in a story, we won’t push it. If you only want exclusives, we’ll make it happen. If our pitches are too long for your taste, just say the word and we’ll keep them brief going forward. If your inbox is full and you’d prefer to connect by phone, we’ll make the call.
- You keep us in the loop when things change.
Your schedule is unpredictable and changes with the news cycle. If you can’t make an interview, let us know. If a story gets pushed or scrapped, give us an update and we won’t add to the clutter in your inbox.
- You shoot us a note when you switch beats.
We respect your time and only want to reach out if we have a story that fits within your coverage area. We do our best to stay up-to-speed, but we definitely appreciate when you help us to expedite the process.
- You come to us when you’re looking for sources.
We’re always adding new clients to our portfolio – you never know when we may have a new source who is perfect for your story. Even if we don’t have a client available to weigh in, we have a pretty extensive network of C-suite professionals… We are more than happy to make introductions!
